Queenslie Industrial Estate: Fossorial Water Vole Park and Blue Green Drainage
Babbity Environmental was commissioned by Savills UK Ltd to carry out fossorial water vole surveys for an industrial estate in Glasgow.
The site is adjacent to the M80 in Glasgow and contains fossorial water voles, recently described by NatureScot as, the rarest mammal in Europe. Tilstone wanted to improve the conditions for the water voles, improve the appearance of the estate and accommodate the new drainage requirement for the redevelopment of the estate. Babbity’s interdisciplinary team of hydrologists, landscape architects and ecologists worked in harmony to producte a novel pulic park that contained surface water drainage features in the best blue-green traditon. It also supplied a new water vole sanctuary, capable of supporting 300 breeding pairs of voles.
